Q. How heavy is the Ladder Transit?

To keep weight to a minimum, the Ladder Transits are made from aluminium.

The Ladder Transit - the Original weighs approx 33kg

The Ladder Transit - A Frame (8 ft model) weighs approx 25kg.

 

Q.  What size ladder will fit in the Ladder Transit? 

The Ladder Transit - the Original can accommodate extension ladders up to 4400mm long (when retracted) by 460mm wide  x 135mm deep.

The Ladder Transit - A  Frame (8 ft model) is designed to accommodate 8 foot A-Frame / Step Ladders.  That is, A Frame ladders up to 8 feet long x 705mm wide (at widest point of feet)  x 180mm deep.

 

Q.  Will I be able to load my A Frame ladder?

The Ladder Transit - the Original is designed to work with extension ladders only.  To load an A Frame ladder, you will need the Ladder Transit - A Frame model. 

 

Q.  Why are the rung locks jamming on my ladder rungs?

There are two possible reasons this may be happening...

1.  You may have to adjust the placement of the ladder rung lock cross member.  To do this, with the ladder in place, remove the Rung Lock Cross Member and place it so that the rung locks sit approx 30mm (or as close as possible to this position) behind the nearest ladder rung.  

Note: ensure that the angled edges of the rung locks face TOWARD the front of the Ladder Transit (as shown in Figures B & C)

2.  Your ladder transit may be closing too fast, and be 'overtaking' the ladder when you're pushing your ladder in.  If so, you will need to tighten the pivot points (fixed with a nyloc nut) on the arms of the Ladder Transit (see Figure D).

The nuts should be just lightly nipped.  Doing the nut up too tight will make the Ladder Transit hard to close.  And leaving it too loose will enable it to collapse shut too fast, and before the ladder is fully inserted.

Q.  Why doesn't the safety catch close properly when my ladder is loaded?

If the safety catch doesn't latch properly when the Ladder Transit collapses shut, the most likely cause is that your ladder is sitting too high in the horizontal position.  This will cause the cross members on the top of the Ladder Transit to collide with the ladder and stop, before it can close low enough for the locking pin to latch.

The Ladder Transit, the Original can accommodate ladders up to 4400mm long (when retracted) by 460mm wide  x 135mm deep.  

If your ladder is deeper (see Figure A above for reference) than 135mm, you will need to raise the cross members on the top frame with spacers (sold separately).  

 

Q.  Why is it so difficult to get the Ladder Transit to collapse shut when I push my ladder in?

You may need to loosen the pivot points on the arms of the Ladder Transit (see Figure D).  They are fixed with a nyloc nut, hence the nut can be loosened and still remain secure.

The nuts should be just lightly nipped.  Doing the nut up too tight will make the Ladder Transit hard to close.  And leaving it too loose will enable it to collapse shut too fast, and before the ladder is fully inserted.

 

Q.  Why is the Ladder Transit closing before my ladder is fully loaded?

You may need to tighten the pivot points (fixed with a nyloc nut) on the arms of the Ladder Transit (see Figure D).

The nuts should be just lightly nipped.  Doing the nut up too tight will make the Ladder Transit hard to close.  And leaving it too loose will enable it to collapse shut too fast, and before the ladder is fully inserted.

 

Q.  My ladder is too long / tall for the Ladder Transit, and the feet stick too far out the back?

If your ladder is fully loaded in the Ladder Transit and the 'feet' of the ladder are sticking too far out past the back of your vehicle, then your ladder needs to load 'deeper' into the Ladder Transit.

To do this, remove the bolts holding the adjustable striker bar frame in place at the front of the Ladder Transit, and EXTEND the frame position (see Figure E) until the ladder sits in the desired spot. Replace the bolts to secure the adjustable striker bar frame in the new position.

You may have to also adjust the placement of the ladder rung lock cross member.  To do this, with the ladder in place, remove the Rung Lock Cross Member and place it so that the rung locks sit approx 30mm (or as close as possible to this position) behind the nearest ladder rung.  

Note: ensure that the angled edges of the rung locks face TOWARD the front of the Ladder Transit (as shown in Figures B & C above)

Q.  My ladder pushes too far into the Ladder Transit, and I can't reach it to pull it out?

If the ladder is too short, and you had to push the ladder too deep into the Ladder Transit and beyond reach, then first check whether or not you can RETRACT the adjustable striker bar frame at the front of the Ladder Transit.

To do this, remove the bolts holding the adjustable striker bar frame in place at the front of the Ladder Transit, and RETRACT the frame position (see Figure F above) until the ladder sits in the desired spot. Replace the bolts to secure the adjustable striker bar frame in the new position.

If however the front striker bar frame is already fully retracted, then the ladder will have to be loaded with the ladder extended out a rung  (see Figure G).  Reload the ladder in this position. Confirm the ladder is in the correct position, or, if necessary, extend the adjustable striker bar frame to accommodate the ladder.

You may have to also adjust the placement of the ladder rung lock cross member.  To do this, with the ladder in place, remove the Rung Lock Cross Member and place it so that the rung locks sit approx 30mm (or as close as possible to this position) behind the nearest ladder rung.

Q.  What is the warranty period?

The Ladder Transit is guaranteed against faulty materials and workmanship for a period of 12 months from the date of purchase. This warranty becomes void if the product has been tampered with, damaged by accident, or damaged in any other way by improper use.  Receipt of purchase must be shown to claim warranty.  All warranty claims must be in writing to support@deltapro.com.au
